Story

We are delighted to invite you to “A Night in New York”, a tribute to “The General” on Saturday, 15 October 2011 at Clough Manor Hotel, Denshaw. Background The loss of a true legend, Chris Frankland a.k.a. the "General", to Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP) at the young age of 26 has inspired us to support and raise awareness of this particular type of cancer. ...Chris was diagnosed with CUP in February 2011. After only two sessions of intense chemotherapy, he sadly passed away in April of that same year. A successful graphic designer and talented goalkeeper, he lived more in his years than most do in a lifetime. A unique and irreplaceable character; he is greatly missed by his many friends and family. In order to mark what should have been his 27th birthday (19th October), and in order to show our support for The Christie Charity (via The “General’s” Awareness Fund), we would like to get together and share some smiles in Chris’s memory. Why New York? Chris always was attracted to the buzz of the “Big Apple”. From Jay-Z to Frank Sinatra; showgirls to sports bars; big breakfasts to bigger steak dinners; with bright lights, blue skies and blizzards, the streets of New York were where he wanted to be. What’s happening on the night? Raising money, celebrating Chris’s birthday and most importantly, having fun! There will be a spot of bubbly on arrival, hot food, live music, and dancing. How much does it cost? The cost of a ticket is £15. This includes a £7 donation to The Christie Charity. All in all, a great price for a great night out! How do you get a ticket? In the first instance, mark your attendance on this Facebook event so we can get an idea of numbers. Then send a message letting us know how many tickets you want. Finally, send us a cheque or hand us the cash and we’ll get the tickets issued to you asap. Other useful information Doors open at 7.30pm. Bar expected to dry out at approximately 1am (no later). The dress code for the evening is New York glamour / black tie (optional), or just simply dress to impress (no pressure!). The event may not be suitable for children. The venue is located in the countryside approx. 6 miles from Oldham Town Centre and approx. 12 miles from Manchester City Centre. There is parking on site, but would suggest large groups organise mini-buses. The venue is also a hotel and can accommodate residents for the evening. If you would like to book a room for the night, please contact the hotel directly on 01457 871 040 or visit their website: http://cloughmanor.com/ For more information about The “General’s” Awareness Fund, please visit our website (via The Christie Charity) as follows: http://hopefunds.christies.org/funds/chrisfrankland Any questions, please feel free to ask! We look forward to seeing you all for a fun-filled evening! Chris Frankland: true legend.
